At Seven Care Services, we are proud to support Stress Awareness Month this April – a time to reflect on the impact of stress and highlight the importance of mental health and well-being for both the people we support and our incredible workforce. 
 
Stress is something that affects all of us. Whether you are a care worker juggling shift patterns, a family member supporting a loved one with additional needs, or an individual living with autism, learning disabilities, or complex care needs – stress can have a real impact on our emotional and physical health. 
 
What is Stress Awareness Month? 
Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992, raising awareness about the causes and effects of stress, and promoting strategies to manage it effectively. It's an important reminder that mental health matters and that support is always available. 
 
This year’s theme is "Little by Little" – focusing on the idea that small, positive steps can make a big difference to our well-being over time. 
 
Recognising Stress in Social Care 
Working in social care can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also bring unique challenges and pressures. Our teams at Seven Care Services provide specialist care and support across Coventry, Warwickshire, and beyond – often working long hours, managing complex needs, and ensuring that the individuals we care for live safe, happy, and meaningful lives. 
 
We recognise that this responsibility can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s why we believe it’s so important to create a culture of openness, well-being, and support. 
 
How We’re Supporting Our Teams 
At Seven Care Services, we’re committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our staff. During Stress Awareness Month, we’re encouraging all of our teams to: 
 
Talk openly about how they’re feeling. 
Take regular breaks and practice self-care. 
Reach out to their managers or colleagues if they feel overwhelmed. 
Access our employee well-being resources and support networks. 
 
We’re also providing: 
 
Well-being check-ins with managers. 
Encouragement to use annual leave for proper rest and recharge. 
Team meetings where stress management tips are shared. 
Signposting to professional mental health support if needed. 
 
Looking After the People We Support 
We also understand that stress and anxiety can significantly affect the people we care for, particularly those living with autism, learning disabilities, or mental health conditions. Many of the individuals we support may experience sensory overload, communication barriers, or anxiety around changes in routine – all of which can lead to increased stress. 
 
Our care teams use personalised support plans, positive behaviour support strategies, and trauma-informed approaches to help reduce stress and promote emotional well-being for the people in our care. 
 
Simple Ways to Reduce Stress – Little by Little 
Here are a few small steps we’re encouraging everyone at Seven Care Services to take this month: 
 
Take 5 minutes each day to pause and breathe. 
Talk to someone you trust when things feel overwhelming. 
Get outside for fresh air and light exercise. 
Switch off from work when your shift ends. 
Celebrate small wins and positive moments each day.
