A Parent’s Experience: Autism Assessment with Seven Care Services
Posted on 27th February 2025
As a parent, your child’s well-being is always the priority. For my husband, James, and me, the journey toward understanding our daughter, Lily, led us to Seven Care Services. Their compassionate and thorough approach to autism assessments has been life-changing, offering us clarity, support, and hope.
Recognising the Signs
Lily is five years old, full of imagination and curiosity. However, as she grew older, we began noticing certain challenges. She struggled to maintain eye contact, found it difficult to connect with her peers, and often became overwhelmed by loud noises. Changes to her routine would cause anxiety, and she found it hard to express her emotions, leading to frequent meltdowns.
After discussing our concerns with Lily’s teacher and GP, we decided to pursue an autism assessment. Through recommendations from other parents and local professionals, we discovered Seven Care Services. Their reputation for providing comprehensive and timely assessments gave us hope during what had been an uncertain time.
Booking the Assessment
From the first phone call, the team at Seven Care Services made us feel welcome and supported. Their efficient booking process and clear communication reassured us, and we were relieved to find that there was no long waiting list—a stark contrast to the lengthy NHS waiting times we had encountered.
The Assessment Day
On the day of the assessment, we arrived at Seven Care Services’ clinic, which was easy to access with convenient parking and close to public transport links. The clinic’s environment was designed with children in mind—calm, welcoming, and sensory-friendly, which immediately helped put Lily at ease.
We were greeted by Sarah, the clinician, who introduced himself with warmth and kindness. He took the time to explain the process to us in a clear and compassionate way, ensuring we understood each step. This helped ease our nerves and made us feel confident that Lily was in capable hands.
The Assessment Process
The assessment involved a series of structured tasks and observations designed to evaluate Lily’s communication, social interaction, sensory processing, and behaviour. Through play-based interactions, Sarah was able to engage with Lily in a way that felt natural and enjoyable for her.
James and I were also asked to share our observations and experiences of Lily’s behaviour at home and in different environments. The clinician listened attentively, asking thoughtful questions that helped us reflect on Lily’s unique strengths and challenges.
Throughout the process, the team’s professionalism and empathy were evident. They ensured that the assessment was as stress-free as possible for both Lily and us, creating a supportive environment that made us feel seen and heard.
Receiving the Results
A week later, we were contacted by the clinic to receive the results. The clinical psychologist explained the findings clearly and compassionately, confirming that Lily met the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Although hearing the diagnosis was emotional, it also brought a sense of relief—we finally had the answers we had been seeking.
Importantly, the team focused on Lily’s strengths, highlighting her creativity, intelligence, and unique way of seeing the world. They provided practical recommendations tailored to Lily’s needs, including sensory strategies, communication tools, and techniques to support her at home and school. We also received a comprehensive report that we could share with her teachers and healthcare providers.
The Impact on Our Family
Since receiving Lily’s diagnosis, our family dynamic has changed for the better. Understanding her needs has allowed us to approach parenting with more confidence and compassion. Simple adjustments, such as using visual schedules, providing sensory breaks, and maintaining predictable routines, have made a significant difference in Lily’s daily life.
At school, Lily now receives additional support tailored to her needs, helping her thrive both academically and socially. We’ve also connected with local support groups in Coventry and Warwickshire, where we’ve found a community of other parents navigating similar journeys.
Why We Recommend Seven Care Services
Reflecting on our experience, we are incredibly grateful to the team at Seven Care Services. Their expertise, empathy, and dedication made the assessment process not only manageable but empowering. We felt supported every step of the way, and the insights we gained have transformed our family’s life.
To any parent considering an autism assessment for their child, I wholeheartedly recommend Seven Care Services. Their team understands the importance of timely, compassionate care—and their work truly changes lives.
